The most commonly used systems are pumped/vented Central Heating systems. A pumped/vented Gas Central Heating System includes components known as a feed and expansion tank to allow for the expansion of water as it is heated in the radiators. Your house gets hot water through the stored hot water tank, it also supplies heat to the heating radiators. The tank makes way for any water expansion that is caused by the heating process. A sealed system is now being used in the new houses that are being built. No water tanks are needed with the sealed system. The attic has no tanks or piping, the system is completely enclosed and locked, it’s not ventilated, and that has its advantages:.
- As there are no pipes, they cannot freeze up in the attic.
- As opposed to pumped/vented systems there is no need for maintenance work on tanks or pipes.
- Reduces the risk of leaking.
- The risk of airlocks, corrosion and gunk are reduced because there won’t be any air being taken down into the system through the open holes as the system is sealed.
- The mains water supply can flush the sealed system if required.
A sealed Gas Central Heating System is a system with the required controls and safety equipment all contained in one. The mains water supplies the water required for the sealed Gas Central Heating system. There is no hot water tank, so water is drawn directly from the main supply.
Normal variations of pressure can be allowed in a sealed system through a pressure vessel that contains compressed gas; this is separated from the sealed system water by a diaphragm. Pressure buildup in a Sealed system can be relieved by a safety valve which drains out water; and pressure drop is compensated by automatic fresh intake of water via another valve.
Gas Central Heating Systems are worth the money as they are cheaper to run than any other form of heating. Moreover, they offer all kinds of control, which are normally not found in other heating systems giving you a more pleasant environment.
