Sample central heating for a cosy house

Gas central heating is the best way to keep your house warm during winters. By centrally heating your house, you can make it more comfortable, inviting and relaxing.

In general, two types of gas central heating systems exist, one that’s pumped and the other with a vented system; but a gas boiler, heating radiator and pipework make up the components of most heaters.

Popularly used are pumped systems which comprise of a main feed and expansion water tank that heats up and transmits the heat through pipework to secondary heaters (heating radiators). The tank has enough storage space to allow for any water expansion that might result from the heating system.

There is also what is known as a sealed system in which no centre core is used to heat the radiators. Since it is totally sealed, the feed-expansion tanks are not required. The major benefits from this type of system, is that it basically lessens the risk of leaking and stops other possible problems such airlocks, one of the better advantages, especially for colder countries is that there is no hazard of pipes freezing up.

So you might ask what is really the point of getting central heating?.

One of the greatest advantages of gas central heating is its capability to increase the temperature inside a home or office very quickly without creating any noticeable effects in the air immediately surrounding you. The old type heaters that were used were gas fires and electric heaters, as well as storage heaters. These primitive heaters invariably resulted in a harsh, sticky and smelly atmosphere.

The central heating systems are free from all these drawbacks but they need regular maintenance to keep them functioning reliably. Many families only use their gas central heating during the cold months and leave them entirely unused during the summertime, this is a common error. You should instead try to gradually introduce them in the autumn time, testing so if things are playing up you can easily call out an engineer.

Furthermore, some of these systems also give admission to air and dirt; therefore draining is a necessity, which should be done regularly with an annual service schedule. To flush the system, open the valve carefully and drain the collected water into a bucket, while ensuring that no further water gets into the heating system.
