How many distinct types of central heating boiler are there

There are many different types of gas Gas Central Heating Systems available to you. Most of them consist of a set of heating central heating radiators, a boiler and copper pipework.

Across the majority of Northern Europe the climate is not warm enough to warrant air conditioning. That is why in the United Kingdom most houses built these days are built with Central Heating Systems fully integrated into the home.

With winter coming up round the corner heating should be at the front of your mind. Heating your home provides a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. For this, you need a reliable central heating boiler in your Gas Central Heating system. You Central Heating System must give you the feeling of assurance that it is safe, simple to use with a long life.

Vented (or pumped) and Sealed heating systems are the two most common types available.

The most commonly used systems are pumped/vented Gas Central Heating systems. Heating systems using the pump or vent process are equipped with a tank to allow for feeding of replacement water and expansion of heated water. The hot water tank performs two functions; firstly, supply hot water to your house, and secondly, provides heat to the heating radiators. The expansion tank has adequate space to accommodate any water expansion that occurs due to heat. The expansion tank is placed at highest spot to help create water pressure. The tank provides a dual supply of hot water and warmth for the house.

Most houses, especially the old ones will have a vented/pumped heating system.

A slightly newer central heating boiler is sealed heating system and this is the preferred central heating system in newer properties. No water tanks are needed for a Sealed system as it is a completely closed setup saving space. In the absence of water tanks and pipework, the whole system is sealed and vented; here are some prominent benefits of such a system.

- Frozen loft pipes are no longer a problem.

- No maintenance work on the tank or pipes that would be in the attic in a pumped/vented system.

- The risk of leaks is decreased.

- As there are no open vents, air cannot enter into the system and so the risk of corroding, air locks and sludge is drastically cut.

- The mains water supply can flush the sealed system if necessary.

Such a Sealed Gas Central Heating System is installed with all the required gauges, controls and safeguards. The sealed system gets its water through the main water supply at pressure. There is no hot water tank, so water is drawn directly from the main supply.

A pressure vessel containing compressed gas, which is kept separate from the sealed system by a diaphragm, is used to allow any pressure variations. If the pressure is very high in the system, then the water will escape from the safety valve, and if the pressure is too low, then the safety valve will open to let the water in.

Compared to any other form of heating, Gas Central Heating systems are by far the most practical and economical. Their ease of operation and versatility is much better than other types of heating.
