Chop down your energy charges
Gas cost-efficiency and trimming gas consumption is essential to us all in modern times. Gas bills seem to be perpetually on the rise and it is therefore also helpful to make greater use of the gas you buy. Your central heating may be accounting for up to one half of your total energy consumption. Below we have outlined some ways in which you can take easy actions two lower your current energy expenses.
turn off gas boilers in areas where you do not need it :
Turn off the metal radiator in any rooms which are not used such as the guest room or utility room. There are no drawbacks in not heating rooms which are not used, but there is an advantage in reducing the gas costs to heat your home. Also close the entrance door to these rooms when not in use.
Don’t use the fire if you can use the central heating system :
The fire is not as efficient as the central heating and it will not heat the rest of your home. The flue will mean that a lot of the heat created goes outside your home, whilst an electric fire appears to give immediate heat it is not as cost-efficient as the central heating in heating the room.
Use insulation to stop draughts
If you allow chilly draughts to come into your home then you need to pay for more energy to heat this air. Pay particular care to your doors and insulate any evident gaps. A foam based sealant is good for closing off any cracks between the brickwork and frame for doors or windowpanes. If you live in an older home you might be stunned how often these cracks occur. The flame from a candle can help you to see invisible drafts as it flickers when they are present.
A sweater or blanket might mean you don’t need to turn up the heating :
Putting on additional clothes or just being active for a while will mean that you get warmer without turning up the heating thermostat. You can save up to 10% on your heating expenses just by trimming the thermostat by 1°.
Make good use of your drapes :
When the sun shines in the winter make sure that it can heat your home like keeping the curtains open. At night most of your home’s heat is lost through it’s windowpanes. Curtains can be an extra form of insulation and this time and cut heat loss if they are closed, this approach will help to save you a lot of money over many months. The heavier your drapes the best for providing this incremental layer of insulation.
tips around the home :
Insulate the hot water cylinder if your boiler has one. Do not pay to heat water and then permit it cool down throughout the daytime.
Experts employ metal foil in the wall space behind a metal radiator to decrease heat leakage to the outside.
