Central Heating System insurance is commonplace

Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by insurance, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. Some are more important than others, and some are even compulsory, as is the case with car insurance. Anyone seeking a housing loan has to make an insurance policy for the house so that both the lender’s and borrower’s interests are insured. These types of insurance cover protect the policyholder from losses that could ruin their lives.

Carrying somewhat of a lower degree of importance is central heating system insurance, such as those products from npower Hometeam, Eon and British Gas. The gas central heating policy is obviously not as important as your home insurance, but its important nonetheless as fixing it can cost you a fortune if you have an unexpected gas boiler or heating breakdown. On top of the cost, you may have to wait some time to have a professional come to your house to fix any problems and living without hot water or heating can be a nightmare. Even deadlier is the risk of poisonous carbon monoxide seeping into your home from a leaky central heating system which has not been properly maintained.

In the market there are a wide range of central heating, central heating boiler and household maintenance plans. Basic plans will cover annual servicing, safety checks and other minimum requirements. In such a plan, the cost of repair and spare parts is separately billed, some of the better quality plans include this enhanced cover. But if someone wants to take out one of these plans, barring the fact that their boiler is still under warranty, only has to add a little amount on the monthly payment to include coverage for maintenance and spare parts within their policy. This is a smart move, specially as the central heating boiler’s warranty period and working life draw to a close. When upgrading to a comprehensive plan, homeowners can choose to also insure the pipework and radiators or heating controls along with the gas boiler.

Before choosing a policy, read the policy papers thoroughly especially and make sure you understand the limits and exemptions. For example, you may be limited to a certain number of call outs per year or a cap on the cost of repairs that will be covered. As with all types of insurance, don’t just choose the cheapest premium without making sure the level of cover is adequate.
